Okay by the title of this post I’m quite sure you know who I’m talking about. Yes this is a post about Bill Cosby and the scandal that is surrounding him.
Let me be the first to say I don’t condone nor do I agree with the things he has admitted to doing. They were awful and the women he did hurt have probably never been the same.
Even thought I may not understand why it took them so long to come out with the accusations it was their story to tell.
But the topic of this post is do we erase everything Bill Cosby has ever done because of mistakes he has made? There are so many celebrities that have commented crimes and we still applaud.
Example #1: Roman Polanski in 1977 he was arrested for the sexual assault of a 13 year old, I’m not going to go into too many details but he eventually fled the country and hasn’t stepped foot back in the US because he will be immediately arrested, but yet he is an Academy Award winner director… The Academy Awards which are given out in the US. I bet they didn’t care about what he had done….
Example #2: Robert Downey Jr Drugs, Drugs and more Drugs really nothing else to really be said. He was a mess and now he’s the most loved man in Hollywood.
I just wanted to give you a few names to give you an idea of what I’m trying to say. These men made terrible mistakes… even Halle Berry hit someone with her car while drunk driving. But for all the good that they are doing now and were doing then does that overshadow the positive things they have done?
Bill Cosby made some comments a few years back that made Black People turn on him. I agree with everything he said. I feel as though he held a mirror up and we didn’t like what we saw. Bill Cosby has given his time and money to charities and helped a lot of people. Do you remember when Lisa Bonet got pregnant? Instead of writing her off he gave her own show and when that didn’t work after she had the baby he allowed her to return to “The Cosby Show” and I say it like that because anyone you speak to will let you know that Bill ran that show.
So he made some very, very, very stupid mistakes he was thinking with his little head instead of his big one, maybe he has a sex addiction who knows? But let’s not write this man off because he has done a lot. Everyone makes mistakes, don’t you want to be remember for the good you did and not the bad?
Put yourself and his shoes, I know I haven’t been an angel but, I would like for everyone to remember when I helped them or made them laugh or was just there to listen to them.
Let’s remember we are human and we need to get back to loving each other in spite of our faults.
